Couple of thoughts and tips:

1. The only drawback to this position is a lack of face to face intimacy. This can be remedied through use of a mirror. A mirror also allows for the couple to see themselves having sex, which is quite a turn-on.

2. This position is great for wives who struggle with orgasming during intercourse as it allows easy access for clitoral stimulation by either spouse. I would recommend though that the wife be stimulated to a point where she is relatively close to an O before getting in this position because it is highly stimulating for the guy. At first her front is on the bed, then it is pointed up at 45 degrees relative to the bed. This reduces stimulation for the husband and shifts the wife’s weight away from her arms. The couple can rest for as long as they need to while still remaining connected to each other. When they are ready to resume normal doggy style the wife can “teeter-totter” back over to her original position. This variation also makes manual stimulation of the clitoris by the husband much easier.

Even going slow may not be enough to hold things back. One thing that helps me is to stop thrusting when I get close and focus on her pleasure by stimulating her breasts and clitoris. If I am really close I stop all stimulation and just focus on increasing intimacy by gently kissing her back.

If a short session is desired (or you want to finish a slow session with a bang) get a firm grip on the wife's hips and go to town with fast, deep, vigorous thrusting. This is the best part IMO.
