OP: Incontinence problem

I've had this slight incontinence problem for a couple of years now (getting worse as time goes by). I've been to the gynae and to urologists but they havent managed to figure out the problem (or rather find a solution to it). I go to outpatients at our local hospital since private gyanes are too expensive here. This means however that I keep getting seen by a new doctor every time, or referred to others.... and they are always male.

Anyway basically my problem is that i 'leak' at different times during the day - not necessarily when i cough or sneeze as i know can happen. I always have to wear panty liners and for example i dread going to the beach because i cannot wear a pantyliner and i feel very 'unsafe'. I dont leak alot at a go (not that i'd have to change my underwear) its just a bit at a time...kind of the same feeling as when you have your period and sometimes you feel the blood flow coming out a bit if you squirm or move....its that same kind of feeling (which obviously i could never explain to a male doctor!!). Sometimes I wonder if maybe i am mistaking it for excessive discharge although i dont think it is. It is yellow smelly liquid which stains my pants. I am only 23 years old so its not really normal for my age to have an incontinence problem (i never had kids either). I've tried Kegel exercises also but i dont think they work....and i dont always remember to do them.

Can anyone help?? Has anyone had anything similar?? I am really desperate. I hate always having that wet feeling in my pants. It also effects me during sex coz i'm always scared i'm going to leak so i keep stopping and running to the bathroom.

This is really getting me down. Someone help please!!

Well, you are living proof that the problem can exist in a 23 yo. Not all that rare. I do see these problems in my office. You MUST explain it in great detail to the doctor. I, too, prefer women talking about "those parts." But males can be very competent and to get the problem corrected, and it can be, the doctor needs to know exactly what is being dealt with. There are urologists who specialize in women. Get to one no matter it may cost.

Incontinence problems may be problems in themselves or they may be symptoms of greater problems. Please, get to someone who can help. At the very least, make certain your GP or internist or family doctor or whatever you call it where you live is tracking the treatment.

thanks for the reassurance that at least its not uncommon since i used to feel quite abnormal and embarrassed about it. i have been to both gynaes and urologists and explained the problem. they have done to different eurodynamics tests and also a CT scan to check for duplex kidneys which i dont have. i am currently waiting for the result of the latest eurodynamics test but each time it takes between 2 - 6 months until the next appointment and with every month that goes past it gets me more down coz i feel like no one knows what's wrong with me and how to solve it. instead of telling me what i do have they keep telling me what i dont have.

i know u cant give me a diagnosis online but through this forum i felt i can at least talk to someone...u never know ...maybe sthing good could come out of it.

My tests resulted in just needing to firm up the surrounding muscles even at an early age.
I hope that is all it is for you.

I found that magnesium and calcium helped me as well as kegel exercises when I was your age. Keep after the doctors to find out what they think the cause is for you and in the mean time you can learn more about your own body's sexuality.

The good for me was the knowing what caused it, finding a solution for it, knowing I wasn't alone in it, and that
the exercises and learning how to control those muscles allowed me to voluntarily contract the muscles around an inserted penis which made sex more fun and stimulating.

hi again.... so i've done the surgery and it the situation seems to have improved. however i still find that i need to wear a pantyliner due to the excessive discharge that i get. This is more or less on a daily basis. Is there any way that it can be reduced? I know that some women wear pantyliners on a daily basis too... however I find this annoying and would like to be able to just wear pants with no extras... any comments please??

thanks!
