OP: My mom is insisting on me getting the shot as BC

Ok, i'm 16, and my mom wants to put me on the once every 3 month Birth Control shot :( ...she says that i'll only have my period once every 3 months as well...I dont like that idea, cause thats like, my assurance... I know that i'm not pregnant if Im having regular periods, ya know? Well, I've had sex before, but she (to my knowledge) has no clue. Since i just started dating this new guy and we're kinda serious, she wants me on the shot...I dont know what to do about it.. What happens with Birth Control? I've never had to take a pill or anything before, so I dont know whats gonna happen... Ahs any girls out there had the shot before? Will i get really moody and stuff? cause i've already got a bad temper...will this make it worse? Please some one fill me completley in on whats gonna happen! i'm scared!

She shouldn't MAKE you do anything. It is smart to go to the DR and get on some sort of BC but the shot doesn't work for every woman.... just like each different brand of BC pill isn't for every woman.
Just talk to the DR and maybe see if you can get your mom to leave the room and just tell the DR exactly what you told us.

Regrettably, not an unusual situation. Too many mothers show up in my surgery (office) with teen daughters demanding that the daughter be put on the pill. It often happens when the mother discovers or suspects that the daughter is sexually active. When I do an examination of any woman, no matter the age, it is alone and that is when the true stories come out.

Yes, the doctor should know what to do about it. And she will have a discussion with you and, then, with your mother. No one can require you to take any medication. I recommend things to patients every day which they may or may not refuse. It is your body.
