OP: Stereotypes Rant

Okay, this has been kicking around in my head for a while. So I thought I'd open it up to include everyone. I'm not trying to offend anyone who might be any of the things mentioned here. It's more of a open rant on sentences such as, "All **** are ****." Now, I realize that most of these are perpetuated in the media- a dubious source of what's real, at best- and people shouldn't take them seriously. Unfortunately, a lot of people do. Heck, there were even people who wanted to send out rescue ships for the castaways on "Gilligan's Island", but even everyday people sometimes make assumptions based on what they've seen on TV or read in a newspaper or magazine.

Here are some of MY personal pet peeves:
GAY
All gay men are horrible at sports. Totally untrue: Greg Louganis, Billy Bean, some football player whose name escapes me just now{lol}, ME(baseball- 7 yrs, football- 2yrs), and Billy hinted that there were a number in baseball who are just too afraid to come out, and the football player said the same about his sport.

Gay men can't even change their own flat tire. Totally untrue, I can do anything to my car that doesn't require knowledge or tools that I don't have.

All gay men are drag queens, hairdressers, flight attendants, or waiters. Sorry, but I know gay cops, firemen, doctors, construction workers, engineers, etc...the list includes just about all professions.

All gay men are pedaphiles. UNTRUE! Statistically this is a heterosexual crime. Which means most perpetrators identify as heterosexual.

WOMEN
Women can't be as savage as men. Untrue. What springs to mind here is the movie adaptation of the book "Congo". In the book, the female lead is a real witch with a capital B. She was a great character. In the movie, they turn her into a simpering wimp who wants to save her ex-fiance'.

Women are only strong until a man comes along and sweeps them off their feet. GAG. I am so tired of women characters who have done very well turning into marshmallows the second a man shows up.

Women who like sex are sluts. God, who invented this rule. And who are all the men who want to bed jump doing it with?

(Straight) MEN
Straight men are all slobs. Okay, I know a lot of people who are slobs including gay men, women, AND straight men. But I don't think straight men have cornered the market. Some that I know are QUITE fastidious.

Straight men aren't sensitive. I know a lot who are. And even the ones who don't show it, I think, know more than they let on. It may be a societal problem, as in, don't be too sensitive or someone might think you're gay.

Well, that's just a few of mine. I'm sure everyone has something. So jump in and let's air out the dirty laundry.

people like to think that if women like don't dress up or wear a lot of make up or wear dresses/skirts or wear the tighter or smaller shirts and jeans and etc etc, that they're a lesbian.
or if they're good at sports or like sports or whatever they're a lesbian or they're bi.

i wear tshirts and jeans. i could care less about makeup. you will, on ocassion find me sporting a baseball cap that's usually turned around backwards. i like baggy stuff. i do not wear thongs or hight cut panties. i wear cotton briefs and on ocassion, male sport shorts. i am not the most athletic person in the world but i can play if i want to. i am not bi and i am not a lesbian.

this also of course works in the opposite.
there are lesbian women who do not wear what i wear and dress up, wear lots of make up and etc etc.

All generalities are false.

Including that one!

BTW, Tease, I think cotton briefs are extremely sexy.

Well, maybe not all cotton briefs.

occasionally i'll go commando too. just depends on my mood and how freshly shaved i am. lol.
and hey, my guy likes them too. there's nothing wrong with them, people just find them "out of style".
but really, it's not what you're wearing, it's what's underneath.

Thetease13, you are right we are so alike it's scary.lol Your comments made me think of the line, "Just remember, under our clothes, we all are naked."

Yeah, WallyLlama, I'll agree that all generalities are false. So why do so many people fall for them?

I know too many girls who are under the impression that all young guys are immature, insensitive jerks. Any girl that I would have gone out with in high school had this impression and therefore only went out with older, usually college grad guys, not taking the time to even try to get to know me for who I am. Unless the situation calls for otherwise, I am (and always have been) a mature person, and i am always sensitive to other people's emotions. The guys that do treat girls like crap and set up this stereotype really tick me off.
