OP: Can girls turn blue too? ;)

I know there's the famous phenomenon of "blue balls" in boys. But can a woman's genitalia turn blue too?

I periodically use a mirror to check on myself down there. Mostly to see if there's any tension and to verify whether I'm still practicing my pelvic floor muscles correctly. One evening about a month ago I noticed that my perineum was purplish blue. Turning the more blue as I did just one rep of exercise. A quick check showed my inner labia were blue too. Curious as I became, I went to look a little deeper accompanied by a flashlight; the vaginal entrance and the walls as far as I can see were also deeply dark-colored. It didn't hurt and was definitely not bruised. My first impression was it just seemed like the blood circulation was extremely effective in the area. Over the past weeks, it's a returning phenomenon, though not every time.

I know that a blue cervix is a sign of pregnancy; a change of color that at times extends to the genitals too. But unless I got pregnant from my new vibrator, that's zero possibility, LOL! :D

Jokes set aside; perhaps these vibrations may actually be a clue. My other toys are rather tiny and with relatively mild vibrations. This is a 4 cm thick 22 cm long 2 motor very powerful vibrator. Could it be that using it, simply has boosted the blood flow to the area? Though it may be worth to note the first time I noticed the color, it had been 2 days since the last time I had used it.

Just for the record; I don't think much of it in terms of worries or anything. It's more that I'd like to satisfy my curiosity :)

Huh, a quick google search made it sound like yes you can get "blue vulva". lol

It's basically that orgasm causes such a fast release of the vasodilatation and other fancy words that without it, it takes much longer for all that blood flow to subside.

Not sure on the timing of 2 days though. Blue balls is a fairly "in the moment" thing. Maybe it's a circulation system issue? Was it just local to that area, or was it also farther down legs and whatnot? Maybe you have a crappy bicycle seat? :)

I appreciate the searching, Firmus :) But this discovery wasn't made after orgasm. And as far as I know; that vasodilatation-phenomenon passes fairly quickly. Btw; my bicycle seat has been the same for years, thank you very much ;)

I do know pelvic floor exercises tend to improve blood circulation, but I've been doing them for years now. And uhmmmm... just to be clear: the last orgasm I did have prior, wasn't 2 days before, that was just the one with toy-assistance :) I have at least one orgasm a day (so far that's not managing to keep the doctor away, LOL! ;))

Come to think of it; I've been taking entocort 9mg a day for a while now. The instructions do not say anything about increasing blood flow, but it does mention it could make the walls of your blood-vessels less strong, increasing the risks for bruising, varicose veins, etc. Might be an explanation, yet I really doubt it's bruised since bruises don't come and go... Which made me think along the lines of a more natural cause.

It's actually quite funny to see :) I tend to accompany pelvic floor exercises with a breathing pattern. So I see the area move and turn more purple and blue with each breath. It's almost like perceiving causality; as if I'm "breathing in color" :)

Women have two colour changes we experience. The more noticeable is a long term effect of aging and childbirth. This results in a change from a "pretty pink" to a brownish red. This will happen to al of us and is accelerated by childbirth. It involves the labia, perineum and vagina.

In the short term, we can experience a bluish blush as a result of sexual arousal without resolution. I have never noticed this in myself. This can be brought about by specific sex play that does not lead to orgasm. It can also be caused by self-manipulation in checking ourselves out or, even, dealing with our periods. The very thoughts and actions of "checking yourself out" will increase the blood flow to the genitals. Whether using a cup or tampon or pad there is additional stimulation to the area during our periods. My first orgasm was aided by a pad and throughout puberty and adolescence I masturbated each night for relief from the day long knowledge that I had to keep checking and the stimulation from pad or tampon. As we age, the "blue vulva" is less likely to be noticeable as the natural colour changes will mask it. Blue Vulva, unlike blue balls in men is not usually painful. Our ovaries are not affected by the increased blood flow as are the testicles.

So, yes, we do get the "blues" and it all has to fo with blood flow and stimulating blood flow whether or not it is specifically sexual aroused.

I find the comments about increased bloodflow by stimulation, even when not specifically sexually intended, interesting. And how it can in it's turn create a need for sexual release. It indeed sheds another light on why women can feel very sexual during their periods. How logical since that area is stimulated all day by pads and tampons! Adding the contracting of the uterus and the way orgasms provide for pain-relieve, it's like nature intended it :)

I can't say why I've never noticed these blues before or why it's happening now. But my skin has always had a tendency to turn red and even purple when exercising, exposed to heat, etc. So it seems only logical to happen there too. My ex never said anything about a blue color, but has once upon a time during oral sex mentioned how deeply colored I become (being very pleased with that result of his "work" ;)). Since I much enjoy but rarely achieve orgasm from oral pleasure, I can imagine he actually meant the same.
