OP: UTI/kidney infection and delay in period

This may or may not have been posted up on here somewhere so I apologize for seeking information on my issue. I just want quick answers to my questions/concerns!

A few weeks ago I went to the hospital because I had all the symptoms of a UTI. Upon getting to the hospital and speaking with the doctor, I was told that I had a severe case of a UTI and that it would be treated as a kidney infection. The doctor prescribed me an antibiotic that I was to take for 7 days. I was asked to contact the doctor immediately if after the 7 days I didn't see any results. Now, here are some of my issues. I forgot to take my antibiotic 3 out of the 7 days that I was prescribed to take it. I was fine and not suffering any of the symptoms after the 7 days...in fact I started to see results way sooner...maybe 3 or 4 days into me taking the antibiotic and as of now I still have some left over. So with that said, I was supposed to get my period on April 6th and it is now April 13th (a week later), and I still haven't gotten my period. Does having a UTI delay getting your period? Should I go ahead and take the remaining antibiotics that were left over? I still feel like the UTI wasn't completely cured. At the moment, my breasts are sore, i'm very bloated, and it kind of feels a bit weird when I pee. It doesn't burn, but I feel a very slight discomfort when I pee. Could I be pregnant even though I took a pregnancy test the day I went to the doctor AND recently on April 9th saying negative? Am I just being paranoid? Help! What should I do?

This is why when taking antibiotics you are told to continue taking the
full cycle of pills even if feeling better after a few days...
If you still feel you havent been cured of the UTI.. get back to the doctor

I know...I should've listened. I'm going to take what's left of the antibiotic starting tomorrow and see if I feel a bit better and finally GET MY PERIOD. My period has been late before but only by a couple of days, NEVER by a week or more...

I guess if nothing happens, I should go back to the doctor right?

NO DON'T just take the rest of the pills....
Go to the doctor and get another course of antibiotics
Or you are just gonna keep getting UTI's .. Believe me... I used to muck around like you have with antibiotics and UTI's and learnt the hard way
Whilst at the doctor ask about your late period....

I agree with Nutty. See your doctor ASAP!

I take it you're not on a birth control pill? Antibiotics are known to influence the bcpill.
The natural cycle can get a bit off track due to fever and illness.
I'm no medical professional; I am taking classes to become a female fertility-counselor.

You took a pregnancytest about 3 days after the predicted commencing of your period. The accuracy of most pregnancytests is around 98%, when taken at least one day after the predicted-period-date on a regular cycle. You do say that your cycle differs at times. Then it's best to review what your longest cycle was over the past 12 months and add 1 day. Random example: your cycle is 26 days on the regular. Over the past 12 months the longest was 29 days. Take the pregnancytest day 30 for an accurate result.

I do worry most about you not finishing your antibiotics properly. I've been in the realms of UTI's and kidney inflammation and that's really not something to mess about with. A slight discomfort when you pee could very well mean that there's still an infection!

Get yourself proper reassurance, instead of feasting on your nails while waiting for your period to come. Your doctor will give you the best answers fitting your medical history. Pick up the phone now!

Some patients The regimen of antibiotics was to have been taken sequentially. By having the breaks in there and taking the rest now you will assure yourself of reinfection with bugs that are now resistant to whatever you were taking. That requires the doctor to go to stronger and riskier drugs that may or may not be as effective.

The infection, alone, and the anit-biotics, alone, could have messed up your cycle. Your current "symptoms" could be pregnancy or could be the infection getting worse. You do not state what form of birth control you are using but if it is hormonal, such as the pill, the anti-biotic would have negated its effectiveness.

At this point, see your doctor and lay out all the facts including, and especially, the part about non-compliance. I have no idea whether or not you pregnant, infected, both or neither.

Okay so last night I was getting cramps so I thought yes! I'm going to get my period. So I went to pee and I saw blood. Its not "period blood" though...its definitely not coming out from my vagina. Its a very bright red and it comes out the same time my urine does. The blood isn't leaking onto my pad like a period should. I only really see it when I pee. I am so worried. What is going on with me? This can't be normal. Oh and Fyi, I am not on birth control and my periods are always irregular. I'm just super freaking out because it has never been more than a week late and the amount of blood I see when I pee scares me. So I should take the remainder of my antibiotic? I should just go back to the doctor and have them prescribe me something stronger right?

So I went to the doctor and it turns out that I still have that UTI. The doctor said that my urine sample was very positive and that there are a huge amount of white blood cells in it. I told him about me not finishing my last antibiotic completely and he said that that may be the reason why I still have the UTI. He also said that maybe the UTI was resistant to the antibiotic and that that's probably the reason the bacteria is still present. He prescribed me another antibiotic that I have to take for 7 days. He also sent my urine sample to the lab to get cultured. I get my results on Monday. Oh and the blood I was scared about was really just my period. It's much lighter than normal though (even though it was heavy the first two days). I will never understand that, but I guess that's okay? It's normal now. Thank you guys for all your advice.

sorry to bother you guys again...
My period has been super light since I got it. My stomach has been making all these weird noises...kinda like stomach growling lately too. When I lie down and feel the bottom part of my stomach, it feels a bit firm and I feel a pulse. I know I got my period and all (mind you I got it a little over a week late), but is there a chance that I could be pregnant? This might just be the UTI craziness getting to my head. Maybe I'm just stressed out and imagining things? What is the deal though? Am I pregnant??

Did you bring this possible pregnancy up to your doctor?

Read the little leaflet that comes with your medication; your stomach could be upset about the antibiotics as a side-effect. Contact your doctor or the pharmacist when in doubt. You could also take another pregnancytest. Antibiotics have no effect on these tests.
