Post adult circumcision care
I was recently circumcised around about 2 weeks ago, closing in on my 3rd week this thursday. My problem is i appear to have quite a bit of blood clotting under the skin just below the scar line. I understand that this can occur as the wound bleeds into the space around it. It is however quite painful when errect, even though i havent really "used" my penis since the operation.
I have only 1 stitch left in and no infection. There is no other pain and the sensitivity is as expected. I was simply wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knew about how long it will take for it to go. I know there are various topical treatments i can use but i would rather not, if this will simply go away within a reasonable time frame (girlfriend is coming to meet me in 3 weeks).

Blood clots under the tissue in small amounts, it takes your body time to reabsorb it. The tissue on the penis is more tender then the tissue on your knees. Imagine taking a pin, where would it hurt more? The knee or the penis? The tissue is more delicate, there are many more nerve endings, and it's a vascular area.

My best friend had this operation as an adult about a year ago for medical reasons. He wore a feminine pad in his underware for a couple of weeks to absorb the oozing and to cushion the Glans from being rubbed by the relative harshness of his underware.
Several months later when he was open to discussing what all happened during this journey, he told me of a similar clot that took quite awhile to disappear. Now, many months later, his only problem is adjusting to the hyper-sensitivity of the now exposed nerves in the Glans that the rest of us have had a lifetime to condition and dull.
When you feel like it is possible to masturbate, again, use a lubricant on the Glans as well as the shaft so that very little friction is needed. The lube will work in two ways; first, so that very little pressure is required; second, if more pressure is desired, applying it is going to reduce the friction while you apply pressure to the deep-seated nerves.
When you and your girlfriend get together, if you plan on having intercourse, then wear a condom and apply some lube just to the Glans before rolling it on. The lubricated Glans will give it some "wiggle room" within the condom in order to transmit friction. The condom will reduce your overall sensitivity probably making things more tollerable.

thank you for everyones reply. I understand the pain and the mechanism of blood clot breakdown, i am letting it rest. I just wanted to see how long i will expect for this to breakdown, and it if it normal, as well as any methods i could have used to accelerate the healing. I may see the doctor if i can here, I am away from my usual area at the moment. Keep the advice coming

As I said before you have 4-6 weeks before the subcutaneous clotted blood disappears. You are at 3 weeks and your g/f shows up in another 3, so you should be okay assuming the doc cleared you for sex. Just be very careful with it, the area is going to be hypersensitive. Nothing you can do to accelerate that, healing is a result of your immune system. The initial post op surgical area is healed, now the underlying tissue must heal as well. Just keep the area clean & dry, try padding the area as Doc suggested.
