Important aspects of final cleaning before moving out of the rental apartment

When we moved out of our last apartment, we thought that the cleaning would be simple: vacuuming, dusting, that's all. But it turned out that the agency required a general cleaning, including cleaning the windows and the extractor hood. We spent two days on it, and still received comments afterwards. I think it would have been easier to order the final cleaning right away. What was your experience with this?
