Hymen still intact???
My hymen never completely broke when I lost my virginity 3 years ago, it stretched more then anything. For most of that time I was with my long term boyfriend who wasn't very "large". We broke up here awhile ago, and recently have been having sex with my new man. Now he is quite large...and I find it hurts when he trys to put it in sometimes (doesn't happen all of the time, but sometimes it pushes against the hymen). And can be quite frusterating!
I explained to him what it was (in case he was curious why I had to "adjust" a lot at first), and he understands. I don't know what to do though! Do I need to make a doctors appointment to "break" it?? I'm so tempted to do it myself...but I'm so scared of the pain :S I've suggested for him to just do it (more so in jokingly sexual frusteration when we're trying to have sex lol), but he doesn't seem into it....which frankly I don't blame him! Should have been done right the first time lol

Hmm, I thought the hymen was very fragile. I also thought that when you have sex it breaks for sure... Vaginas are so complicated, heheh. :rolleyes:

My first time it didn't bleed at all...it was a little uncomfortable. My second time it did bleed, but didn't fully break. Now I didn't loose my virginity until I was 18, so I had been masterbating for about 3-4 years prior too...so it did get stretched a little, so that I blame part of the reason on that...
I'm taking it that a gynacologist would be the doctor I'd have to go for, for this sort of thing, eh?

Maybe I missinterpreted what the hymen is...but I did do some research and found out that there's this thing called a "septate hymen"...which describes what's going on with me....anyone else hear of this before???

You should make an appointment to see your gyn; additionally, you should have a full gyn check prior to becoming sexually active. There are a few women who have had same as you explain; matter of partially intact hymen is fixed. Call and get a gyn check.

I've actually been sexually active for 3 years, and didn't pose as a problem until I was with a guy with a larger...ahem.
But after additional research, it stated that in some E.R's, they'll do a quick surgery where they "snip" it. So I may explore this option...

No different than seeing the Gyn. And you still need an annual gyn checkup. Most often ER's do not have the time to get into such & insurance companies do not wish to pay for a visit. They refer you to the gyn, some are simple and others are not. I would think if you have been sexually active for 3 years your gyn should have seen this or if it has gone on this long it's going to more complicated than a "snip".
Do not self-diagnose! See a doc.
Best off to see a gyn, planned parenthood, or a gyn clinic.

You need to go see your doctor. I have heard of hymens not fully breaking, for lack of a better term. And also stretching either without fully breaking or not breaking at all.
The doctor will give you something for the pain, and well let someone who knows what they're doing do it. It's safer for you that way.

I do not have a septate hymen and never did. I have seen quite a few and have 'Fixed" a few. I cannot believe that with several pap smears and an apparently active sex life you would still have any remnants of a hymen. How was the speculum used? Are you a tampon user? I cannot imagine anyone doing a pap smear and not bringing it to your attention. When doing first gyn exams, this should be pointed out and an offer to fix the situation should be made.
Assuming that it is a regular septate, the snip can be done right on the exam table. Wear a pantiliner and dob on some anti-bacterial ointment for a day or two and that should be it. There is a remote possibility that you had a really thick one and the doctor will want to remove it the ends rather than just snipping. In neither case should you try it yourself. Some women do have a hymen that more resembles a third set of lips of much thicker tissue that the hymen usually has.
Rare? Not really. Unusual but not rare.
A search for septate hymen will yield several resources from simple diagrams for teenaged girls to medical discussion of various irregular hymen structures.
As you lift your feet into the stirrups, ask specifically and the doctor will discuss this with you completely.
