I have been epilating for almost 11 years now and I would never go back to shaving or waxing. But, when I did shave all the time there were basically these rules that really worked for me! I rarely had trouble with ingrowns or razor burn.
.Use a NEW razor head with at least three blades when you are going to shave.
.Use a shave gel and apply gel to each stroke. This means if you are shaving over one area more than once, re-apply. Also, shave first in the growth direction and after you get it down to where it looks completely smooth, go once in the other direction.
.Like everyone else said, make it the last thing you do before you finish your shower/bath.
.Get something that helps reduce bumps and sensitivity. I couldn't live without my TendSkin. I usually bought it off Ebay, it's much cheaper that way. Use after you dry off.
.Never shave the day after! This will cause extreme irritation. Make sure that you exfoliate in between shaves. I still have to do this and I really like Swiss Ives Apricot Scrub. It is a lifesaver!
