OP: abortion questions

I have been on this site for a while now, just reading and learing from other peoples experience, never really thought id be asking this type of questions.

My girlfriend and i have had sex around nine times now, before this we were both virgins. we are both 18 and have a good sex life for the amount we have done, i feel. We have kind of a long distance relationship about a 250 mile distance apart, so we dont see each other alot. The last time she visited we had sex a few time everytime using condoms. We did have two brake. there was no cum inside of them though. Here is the scary part. She has been experiencing some of the early signs of pregnancy(excesive peeing, light period, and upset stomach). We are both terrified of the idea of her being pregnant and the worst part is i cant be there to help comfort her right now. So im trying to help out as much as possible, she is going to try to get a pregnancy test tomarrow, it has been two weeks since the last time we had sex. Will this be a long enough time for the test to come up positive if she is? Also we have talked about it and have decided were both to young to have a kid and will go through with a abortion if she is. Does anyone know about how much a RU486 (pill abortion) will cost? or the how much the injection will cost. We are both pretty darn scared, and are hoping for it to be negative, but want to have all the info possible if its not. i will more than likely be paying for all of it, I hope i dont sound mean or anything with this but if its needed so im a little curious on how much money ill have to get together being 18 thats tight right now, and she doesnt work. i know there was more i wanted to ask but i just cant remember right now. any replys would be greatly apreciated and let me know if you have any questions for me.

First you both need to relax until you have a definitive answer. The symptoms she is experiencing are yes, similar to those of pregnancy but they are still vague, meaning a UTI, stomach virus, etc. Have her get the home preg test and do one now and repeat when she is close the time of her normal cycle. Additionally, I am assuming she is not late yet since you did not mention it? If she is how many days/weeks?

To address the second part of your question: Do you have a Planned Parenthood near her? Or any other Gyn clinic? These provide information on pregnancy and TOP options at much lower costs then walking into your private Gyn doctor. Next, does she have insurance coverage through her parents? If she does, she should use it since her visit to the Gyn is confidential. I know the general out of pocket costs or cash payment in NY for a TOP is about $1,200.00. Depending on what method the woman & the doctor decide the costs will vary.

Hope this helps...

The only thing which may show up on the insurance if she has a PPO may be a bill for services but it only describes the level of care required and if lab work was done (NOT THE TYPE of lab work). All she would have to say is: she was having excessive bleeding or a longer period and went to see her doctor. If she has a HMO, which are the most common, there is nothing generated to be sent to a home. Again, all she has to say is she went to see her gyn b/c she had a longer period or heavy bleeding. ALL insurance information (treatment and diagnosis) is now confidential and cannot be disclosed to anyone but the patient and the doctor. There can be no records, no information sent out, given out, or disclosed under Federal Law--only to the insurance company. At the age of 18 she can consent to her own treatment. In NYS, a young lady can present for treatment requesting a pregnancy test, STD test, or a rape exam/kit AND be under the age of 18 this information cannot ever be disclosed without the written consent of the patient. I can have an irate parent demand to know if their child was seen for any of the above and all I can reply is "all patient information is confidential" ; I cannot confirm nor deny the patient was there or not, treated or not. I would not worry about that at all, insurance companies do not summarize treatment on a bill and if they are called will not give any info out about treatment even if it's the patient. I had a recent gyn checkup, had to go back b/c of a yeast infection, the insurance company sent me a copy of "we are requesting your records for review by our Utilization Review department". I called wondering why and what date this was even for, they would not tell me! It was for a culture sent out to verify the decrease in yeast! I had to try to figure it out myself since I had quite a few visits...

If she is due for her period on Monday, relax and do the test. In NY, there is a stomach virus going around. It began w/peds (kids) and now is affecting adults with nausea...We are getting all the college kids right now with it.

Next time add spermicide! Or have her talk to her gyn about the pill or other options.

Glad to hear you dodged that one. As a teen I had a rule: He furnishes the condoms and I the vaginal spermicide. It is time for her to get involved in protecting herself.

It sounds like you have decided to use vaginal jelly in addition to the condoms. The three major brands in much of the world are Gynol II, K-Y Plus and Koromex. It is usually with the condoms are the feminine hygiene products. The first tube should be "with applicator." The applicator is then retained and lasts for years.

I recommend the vaginal jelly but the other forms of vaginal spermicide are foam, film, suppository and tablet. There are also some prepared dose things such as Conceptrol. That comes in a single use applicator that is disposeable. The Sponge is also very popular. The jelly provides lubrication and in combination with a condom has about the same effectiveness as the pill.

Having two condoms beak is unusual. I have never had one break in many years. Make sure you are putting a little twist in the closed end before putting it on. That gives some expansion room and reduces breakage.

I was talking about abortion with a friend of mine, and she told me a few things that surprised me and I was really curious if they were true.

She said that getting an abortion could lead to the female being unable to get pregnant ever again. Supposedly her friend got one, and when they were removing the fetus, they left a bit still attached and it caused her to remiain infertile for the rest of her life. Is this true?

Also she said abortions were like $300-600. I thought this to be absurd, but made me wonder. What do they usually cost? I mean I was always under the impression it was available to an underaged teen for a drastically reduced price since they generally cant afford it.

There are three types of abortions to be considered. One is caused by mifepristone, the oral emergency contraception that will not be prescribed until several weeks after a missed period and can be used up to a couple months. The second is chemically induced by introducing a saline solution into the uterus which will kill the foetus and it will abort itself. Usually this can be done in the first trimester. The third is the traditional d&c where the cervix is spread and the walls scraped.

Each has its own risks and benefits and the earlier, the better if the woman wants to abort. Most nations with a National Health Service and abortions are legal, there is no cost. I know nothing about the US costs.
