OP: Taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo with Zoloft

I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not Zoloft (an SSRI / antidepressant) will interfere with the effectiveness of Ortho Try-Cyclen Lo? God, I hope it doesn't. lol. I researched for a list of drugs that do affect it, and SSRIs weren't on there, but then again it never said it had the full list of drugs that affected the Pill.

The zoloft will not interfere with the ortho tricyclen. However, there is some amplifying effect possible. That is, some women experience mood swings on hormonal contraceptives and zoloft is known for causing pms problems. If these two things occur together you could be an "issue" to live with. Your blood pressure should be monitored.

Please talk to the prescribing physician. You should always tell every doctor about every drug and dietary supplement you are taking.

Hmmmmmmm, Brandye, I was on either Zoloft or Paxil with Ortho Tricyclen (not sure if it was Lo, or what) ... & when the condom broke I got pregnant -- my OBGYN & said the other medication reduced the effectiveness of the BC  So, while I do not doubt you're correct (if for no other reason than I'm not sure which specific type of BC it was or if it was also Zoloft or Paxil), I just want to stress that it's always best to ask your own Dr. :o :)

Thanks. I told obgyn about taking Zoloft, but she didn't really say anything about it either way. So I'm guessing it's all right. Ahh, now I'm not gonna stop worrying about it. Gonna have to call her or something.

Please do. Only the treating physician can estimate the specific situation and the "herbal" anti-depressants all reduce b.c. effectiveness.
