OP: What kind of bed to you guys like?

Hi,

So I have some questions, and yes it'll be way subjective, but just looking to start some conversation. :)

What's you're favorite kind of bed for sex? How do you like your current setup? What would you have done differently?

For me, I really like our bed layout, but not the mattress. I built my own bed frame a number of years ago out of 2x4's and a plywood top. I got tired of those crappy metal frames for a king size bed, as they always seemed to give out in one way or another. Plus, I made a headboard out of an old 100 year old oak door I found at an auction, so I knew it wouldn't fit any standard frames. I put some thought into this for sex though. I set it up so that it's just the right height for sex with me standing on the end. No odd cowboy legs or whatnot to get angles right. :)

Now the downer. A few years back we switched from the old standard style spring mattress to one of the fancy memory foam ones. I will say, our sleep has dramatically improved, but I think for sex it is horrible. First off, there's no bounce to it. That's kind of the fun rhythm to it, let alone the boingy boingy sounds. This foam one reacts to body heat, and as it warms up you sink a bit into it. So naturally as we're going at it we start to sink. It's like making love on a giant marshmallow. We have a hard time with doggy style, as since I'm 2x as big as my wife I sink in deeper than her despite me being 6" taller than her, so her buns are on my stomach! Any time she's on her back she has to put her hands under her butt so keep herself elevated. We don't have "sex pillows" or whatnot to stuff under there, which may be an idea. Lastly, if you've ever sat on a corner of these type beds you know it just kinda gives way under you even more so than the middle, so when I'm standing on the end I find myself holding her up more than the bed is.

We also don't have room in our house for sex specific furniture, let alone would we ever for the sake of we have kids, and well yeah they're that age were all we'd need is "mommy must really like her swoopy chair in her room, she gets all giggly when they sit on it every night." being told at the lunchroom. lol So for us, it's the bed 95% of the time.

So ok, how do you like yours?

Take care all!

I can just picture it! For sex the mattress should be firm and the box spring should have that 'just right' bounce. Yes, it is hard to find. We have a Belgian-made king-size bed that uses wooden bowed-upward slats on metals frames inside a wooden base. It is monster bed with nightstands attached plus a headboard and footboard. Only weak point (we have broken it and repaired it several times) is the center support between the two slat frames. As far as your question goes: yes my bed is fine for sex. But I have known men who had to put stronger bolts in their bed frames.

I also have a memory foam bed and run into similar problems. It really drives me nuts that it responds to temperature so much during sex that even after you find a position that works very well, it won't a minute later after warming. I went with some of the liberator foam cushions(ramp and wedge) and it fixed most of the problems and they worked better on the other spring bed than pillows as well. A firm pillow underneath your knees can work like snowshoes and help prevent you from sinking in so far with doggystyle. The ramp and wedge also work well for massages or elevating sore limbs.

A firm spring pillowtop mattress has always worked the best for me since it's soft to light touches to roll around in but provides enough support for knees and hands to really get good angles and actually be able to keep them.

The other day I heard from my mom that while the memory foam beds are good for sleeping, they're useless for "other activities" LOL. Perhaps those sleep number beds will be better?

A few years ago, during the craze for water beds, I did check into a hotel advertising these with a friend. It must have been overfilled. Even with both of us in the middle, there was a tendency to roll out and getting any purchase for other activities was impossible. Worst night sleep ever and we ended up on an overstuffed couch for pre-sleep activity. I have never again tried a water bed.

decent matress, not memory foam, slats underneath
has to be king size
no bottom board
access from 3 sides, not rammed against a wall.
no squeaks
lots of firm pillows (Have a box under the bed if not required for sleeping)
and get the lighting right. not too dim and not too bright.
and some furniture. a desk and a chair at the very least.
so you need a bigger room!
