One Night Stand?
I am seriously considering have a "one night stand" with a guy that I have been talking to online. He's going to Canada and will be passing through my town on the way. We have plans to go out to lunch . We get along really well, he is attractive, and thinks I am..
So maybe it's not exactly a one night stand as I kind of know him.. but still. I've only been with one person and that was in a commited relationship. So I'm kind of nervous about the risks and the payoffs!
Advice? Experiences?

i would just enjoy your lunch w/ him and hanging out. i think then you'll know.
if you are attracted to him and feel a good vibe, then go for it. if not, then thats ok too.
you just have to know inside yourself are you willing to sleep w/ someone just for fun and know there won't be anything further.
who knows, it might blossom into something more.

I agree with demonbuttercup. Make sure you know what the guidelines are... as in, this WILL be a one-night stand... and decide if that's okay with you. I can be fun if you don't have unreasonable expectations- if it's just for fun.
Sorry, but I have to say this... just remember to play safe. That means condoms, at least.

The answers are a little different, I think.
One night stands can result in some incredible sex. Sometimes incredibly good; sometimes incredibly bad. But that's the nature of one night stands... ya grab your partner and ya takes yer chances. Either way, it's a one night deal.
That's partly why I'm asking for clarification on the question... if you're asking a relationship question, the risks are different.
The sex might be incredibly bad... what does that do to your relationship, particularly since it sounds like you won't get an opportunity to try again, at least for a while.

One-night stands can be incredible. But I agree that both sides need to know the ground rules up front. I have had one-nighters where I just met a guy or girl in a bar or party situation, went back to their (or my) place and had amazing sex. The next day we each went on our way, happy that we were able to enjoy each other and get off.
I have also had one-nighters with someone who I was friends with and on the edge of doing more. Once you go over that edge, things will never be the same. I screwed up a friendship with one of my best girlfriends because we got drunk and ended up in bed together. She got the idea that I was going to leave my husband and begin a monogamous lesbian relationship with her. I wish I had told her that I only wanted to be with her that one night. It really would have made things easier. The worst that could have happened was she says "no."
