Birth Control Pill Strengths?
I searched for this topic and couldnt find it anywhere. I understand that different pills have different strengths but which are stronger then the others? And also from what ive been told, if you miss a pill there is a chance an egg will drop if you have a lower dosage pill. How high of dosage should you be taking to avoid that if at all possible. I vaguely remember being told that Marvellon 28 is a very low dosage pill. How about Yasmin?
If possible could someone create a chart of "well known" birth control pills and list them according to dosage strength? Just curious you know :D

Yaz is a low dose pill...there is a list around here of some which Brandye compiled in order to demonstrate the ones used for Emergency Contraception...
What you will find if you look them up in a PDR; they are nearly the same, same strength, with a slight difference in the hormone mixes....the only variable are those which are not the usually prescribed ones...I'll look for the list...

Good luck! If you have questions ask...then see your doc...this is your body and and you need to be able to tolerate the pills. Seriously, have you considered the Nuvaring? Or a barrier method such as an IUD or C.Cap & him using a condom??? Years ago I began the pill, for medical reasons and tolerated them so poorly....over years it was better due to changes in the pills...while married I liked the depo (ovarian cysts) and I had minimal to no side effects. Others say the opposite. The switched later to a c.cap....Seriously if you are in a monogamous relationship, they work well, add the condom...and insert the spermicide inside the cup as suggested.......they can be put in early in the am, washed out next shower and replaced...very unobtrusive and cuts out the stop..."I need to run to the rest room deal"...I found the c cap the best form ever used...it looked like a small U shaped red item!!!! No one knew it was there....not even I...

From my understanding, all the current birth control pills ARE low dose, because the higher dose ones that used to be used 20+ years ago are too harsh on a womans system, because they're like the morning after pill. Just what I heard.
Get and IUD, its seriously the best decision I ever made. :)

The pill was originally introduced, ca. 1960, in doses as high as four mg. Today, they run between .25 and 1 mg. All of today's are low dose.
Taken as directed, all pills, and other hormonal systems, are equally effective. The only advantage to the "stronger" pills would be that they have a slightly larger margin for error. All today's pills have a margin for error of six to eighteen hours in the "average" woman. They would also have stronger side-effects. Today we also use combination pills so the dose of estrogen is no the only consideration.
You are a big girl. Why ask someone else to do your research for you. Look up oral contraception and you will find dozens of sites showing exactly what you are asking.
Unless you are having side-effects, there is nothing gained by comparing the dosages. If you want a low dose, use the Nuvaring; if you want a high dose, be prepared for trying several pills until you get one you can tolerate.
