From what I've read the "point" of it is it creates the feelings of jealousy and competitiveness which brings a lot of power to yourself. Kind of like how danger is exciting, but if you logically look at danger it seems stupid to do. Beyond that once a person "gets over themselves" they can then appreciate their spouse enjoying the sex. Just like, you would be fine to go out and be with your wife while she enjoys a cake that some other guy made, even if it's a better cake than you've ever made.

Me personally, I can appreciate the fact that people do this and enjoy it, however I'm not entirely sure how I would handle it. Who knows? I'm pretty sure I'll never be in the situation, so I'll never really be 100% on how it would work out for me. My "fear" would be that it would spiral out of control. By that I mean something that starts off as us together would grow to a point that it didn't involve us, and you really get to the heart of the fear of being replaced, or unneeded.

I know this would most likely happen, as I have a fairly addictive personality. When I start something new I'm almost tunnel vision, and that new thing can easily suck up all my free time. I would hate to put myself in a position where I would abandon the attention I enjoy giving my family.

In any event, it's an interesting thing to ponder. In my mind right now I'm ok with it. Like I play a scenario in my mind and it's not scary or revolting. Huh.

Obviously you haven't kept up w the latest science. We evolved for 'multimale - multifemale' mating systems utilizing sperm competition - your sperm fits 'in there' so men don't have to fight 'out here' and everyone 'gets some' and paternity is unknown all of which led to increased survivabiity due to increased group cohesion/cooperation and decreased levels of child neglect/abuse. Just re-enacting our primordial lifestyle is all, guys!

But something's been bothering me about that ever since I read "Sex at Dawn". For 150,000 years, our ancestors lived in these multi-partner communities but then in the last 10,000 years most of abandoned it because we discovered agriculture. But why after 150,000 years of not needing agriculture, why did we suddenly have a need for it when food and land was already plentiful? Why did most people revert to a lifestyle where they weren't happy and not revert back? Is agriculture really to blame or was it something else? Something's not adding up here.

A number of years ago I got very freindly with a woman in a chat room and I arranged to meet her and had sex with her quite a few times. Hi all! Well I figure as I am new here I might as well dive in and start saying stuff until admin puts me in a corner for being a bad girl ;) So first off my name is CreamySweet. G-dubz - once they found they could grow food, they didn't have to walk and began accumulating surpluses so they got fat dumb and, more or less, happy - as the expression goes. Then men discovered that by controlling women they could KNOW the child was theirs and it all went downhill from there. It was explained in the book.
