I want to get one done but I would like to know how long the hair has to be. Also when they do that where else do they wax? Like by your butt too and such? How long does it last on average cause I want my moneys worth you know?

Aldo any tips on preventing irratation from shaving? Ill be okay for like a day but then its alllll down hill and i get razor burn all over and its gross.

I'm a big fan of the Brazillian. How much they wax is up to you. Your esthetician should ask you what you prefer. You can have them wax everything, including around your anus, or just wax everything up front. Just tell her that it's your first time and if she's good she should explain everything she's going to do. When you call to make the appointment, you can ask them how long they recommed the hair to be. I think usually it needs to be at least 1/4 of an inch.

How long it lasts depends on how quickly your hair grows. Mine have lasted anywhere from 3-5 weeks.

I personally refuse to shave my pubic hair because of the irritation it causes. Exfoliating can help and I believe there are also some lotions on the market that can help calm down the irratation.

1/4 of an inch sounds about right to me, a little longer isn't going to mess up the procedure, but if it's too short the wax can't grab ahold of the hair.

Mine lasted around 3 1/2 to 4 weeks, and I think that it is definitely worth it, especially if you're going on a cruise or abroad. I plan to get another one this summer when I go to Spain.

I did not get the entire area around my anus waxed because I felt a little uncomfortable with that, but like leeloo said, they can wax it.

I also get very bad razor burn, so I tend to stick to trimming, except for in the summer.

Thanks curious woman for clearing that up for me. Invented in Brazil, hence the name. Probably for use with the string bikini also invented in Brazil. Sounds painful. Maybe Brazilian women are natural masochists!

They recommend you trim to about 1/4 of an inch and keep your skin moisturized;therefore, the skin discomfort is reduced. A true wax will be "all of it" rump included. Lasts about 6 weeks. If you wish for less to be waxed it needs to be made known, a good specialist will ask you and describe various aspects of waxing. If you chose to do the full true wax? A good wax-er may recommend you do it two sessions the first time based on if you can tolerate it or not. Does it hurt? No. Just a quick ouch; had much worse by nicking my legs with a razor.

I shave bare and I don't get much irritation at all. The only reason it should itch is if you let the hair grow back, but if you don't let it grow back it's not a problem. If I want it to be really smooth I shave everyday, but you do get a little bit of redness and some shave bumps if you shave every day for a long time. My hair also grows pretty fast. Every other day makes for no irritation. And if you wait about 4 days between shaving, the hair has grown back enough that you can get a super smooth shave. My advice is to shave first downwards (in direction of hair growth) and then come back up in short, slow strokes with a sharp blade (I use Gilette Venus). And shave in the BATH not the shower! It softens up the skin and hair so it's more comfortable. Afterwards, pat dry and use a hypoallergenic, nonirritating lotion (Cetaphil works well) on the whole area.
